...there were some cats and then a dog and then a turtle and now some chicks.
So what to do when the animals outnumber the humans? Create a blog and take a walk on the humanside.
I have this insane desire to share all the interesting and not-so-interesting things that happen here at Nonsense Farm as we attempt to try our hand at a more sustainable living in the small bedroom community of a college town. This blog will be about more than just sustainable living though. It will also include all the domestic-type crafts that I attempt (with their good and bad).
This whole mess came about as a need to save some money by eating and living a little closer to home. We already have some typical animals - 3 cats, 1 dog, 2 teenagers (the Wee Teen who is 13 and the Pre-Man who is 17). I also inherited a mud turtle as a classroom pet. He now lives in our bathroom. I also have a horse that lives on a farm about 10 minutes from us. A week ago, on a kinda whim, I told the Hus-Man that I found a place to get chickens - a breed that I had been reading about and that were also sexed, so we would know that we had 6 females and no roosters. They were, although 2 hours away from us, not too far out of the way of where I was headed for a dyeing day with friends. Surprisingly, there was no argument. We now have 6 3-week old chicks living in a recycling bin in our bathroom. Let the adventure begin!
